Take a look at this Accessible Walk-In Shower Installation in Blacksburg, VA, where Bath Planet SW Virginia transformed a standard bathroom into a safer, more functional, and beautifully modern space. The homeowner’s main priority was to create a shower their mother could use comfortably and independently. Our team delivered a design that combined accessibility, style, and durability — ensuring long-term peace of mind.
Transforming a Bathroom with Safety and Style
We began this project by installing a smooth white shower pan (58.5” x 31” right-hand drain) along with a three-wall white surround system. The crisp, clean white design gave the bathroom an updated look that feels both timeless and versatile. To improve safety, we included three oil-rubbed bronze grab bars — two 12-inch and one 36-inch — strategically placed for extra stability and support. These bars provide added confidence for anyone entering or exiting the shower, while the oil-rubbed bronze finish adds a touch of warmth and style to the overall design. For convenience, we installed four acrylic single-tier shelves, giving the family plenty of storage space for soaps, shampoos, and other daily essentials. These shelves are durable, easy to clean, and perfectly positioned to keep everything within reach.
Thoughtful Accessibility Upgrades for Everyday Comfort
The highlight of this installation was the addition of custom water controls, thoughtfully designed with accessibility in mind. The homeowner requested an on/off handle placed next to the folding seat, allowing their mother to operate the shower comfortably while seated. We also installed a second control beneath the shower head on the right-hand wall, offering flexibility and ease of use. Paired with a Delta 17 valve and standard shower head, these features give the shower a modern performance system that balances simplicity with convenience. By combining thoughtful placement with high-quality fixtures, we created a shower that adapts perfectly to the homeowner’s needs.
How Accessibility Upgrades Add Lasting Value
A bathroom renovation is more than just a style upgrade — it’s an investment in comfort, safety, and home value. By converting this bathroom into a safe and accessible walk-in shower, the homeowners now have peace of mind knowing their mother can shower safely and independently. These kinds of thoughtful features not only improve quality of life but also make the home more appealing to future buyers who value accessibility and modern updates. The clean lines, durable surfaces, and user-friendly layout ensure this shower will remain beautiful and functional for years to come. It’s the perfect example of how a renovation can combine safety with style, without sacrificing design.
